How To Deal With Anxiety
Let’s face it, most of us feel anxious or worried about things from time to time, but when it starts to become a big problem it can affect your every day life causing such problems as difficulty in sleeping, depression, lack of concentration at work and even problems within your relationships. Whilst you may want to seek medical advice, there are several things that you can do yourself at home to learn how to deal with anxiety.
Take a break
It’s important to take regular breaks from your work. Beavering away for hours without a break can soon lead to stress and tension which can turn into anxiety. Make sure you take a 15 minute break from your work place in the morning and in the afternoon and, if possible, take a complete hour’s break at lunch time. If you can, try and step away from your place of work for these breaks as it will allow you to clear your head and unwind. If you work from home, then take yourself out with your dog for some fresh air and to get away from the house, or sit in a different room with a cup of tea or coffee.
Exercise regularly
Exercise is important when you are learning how to deal with anxiety. A regular routine can help to alleviate stress, depression and anxiety. When you exercise endorphins are released into the body which give you an upbeat feeling and renewed energy. It’s best not to do the sort of exercise where you have time to think, such as running or cycling, but instead try and do something where you need to concentrate on what you’re doing such as a racquet sport or a keep fit class.
Try to socialise more
Being along can lend itself to becoming anxious and overly worried about things, since you have time to dwell on all of your problems. Naturally there are times when you want to be alone, but try and get out more or have people with you, so that your mind is occupied elsewhere. If you do spend long periods of time on your own then make time for activities which fill your mind, such as crossword puzzles, reading, painting or playing an instrument.
Turn off the TV
So much of what you view on the television is negative such as storms and floods happening, wars taking place, abductions and murders, so it is little wonder that you start to feel that bad things are happening all around you. Try turning off the television for a week and fill your time with other things. You may find that you now have more time to meet with friends or family or take up hobbies. Most importantly, you’ll find that your mind is not full of anxiety.
